In July 2026, India's automobile retail industry achieved record sales across all vehicle categories, marking a significant milestone according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations. Total vehicle retail sales reached 25,91,138 units, showing a yearly growth of 25.89% and a slight monthly decrease of 0.16%.
The retail sales of two-wheelers (2Ws) hit 18,18,289 units, up 28.25% annually, making it the first time July sales exceeded 18 lakh units, despite a 1.26% monthly decline. Commercial vehicles (CVs) saw sales of 99,666 units, increasing by 24.04% year-on-year and 4.94% month-on-month. Passenger vehicles (PVs) totaled 4,16,555 units, up 19.13% annually, surpassing 4 lakh for the first time, though they were down 1.68% compared to June.
Three-wheelers (3Ws) sold 1,33,778 units, with 65.08% being electric. Tractor sales increased to 1,17,349 units, representing an annual growth of 28.10%. Overall electric vehicle (EV) sales reached a record 3,27,901 units, increasing EV penetration to about 12.7%. The industry shows strong growth of 18.27% in the first four months of FY'27 as it heads into the festive season.
