The Reserve Bank of India has published data on the private corporate business sector's performance for the first quarter of 2026-27. Sales growth for listed private non-financial companies accelerated to 19.4 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in Q1:2026-27, up from 13.9 percent in the previous quarter. For 1,827 listed private manufacturing companies, sales increased by 21.4 percent y-o-y, compared to 14.5 percent previously, driven mainly by the automobiles, petroleum, and electrical machinery industries.
Information Technology (IT) companies saw their sales growth strengthen to 14.8 percent y-o-y in Q1:2026-27, up from 9.9 percent. Non-IT services companies achieved a 19.7 percent growth, slightly down from 20.3 percent in the prior quarter, largely due to the wholesale and retail trade sector.
Despite disruptions in global supply chains, raw material costs for manufacturing companies rose sharply by 27.5 percent y-o-y. However, the raw material to sales ratio slightly decreased to 58.1 percent from 58.5 percent in the previous quarter. Operating profit growth for manufacturing companies improved to 21.3 percent y-o-y, compared to 9.4 percent before, with IT and non-IT services also showing gains of 19.9 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively. Operating profit margins improved across all major sectors in Q1:2026-27.
