IIP growth recovers in August 2026

The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation reported the Quick Estimate of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) today. The IIP growth rate for August 2026 registered at 8.0 percent, a notable increase from the 6.7 percent (Quick Estimate) recorded in July 2026. Sectoral growth rates for August 2026 reflect a contraction of (-) 5.6 percent in Mining & Quarrying, expansion of 9.0 percent in Manufacturing, a 12.3 percent rise in Electricity & Gas Supply and Water Supply, Sewerage & Waste Management, and an increase of 6.3 percent. Utilizing a Use-Based Classification, the IIP exhibited growth of 3.5 percent in Primary Goods, 16.9 percent in Capital Goods, 13.7 percent in Intermediate Goods, 6.4 percent in Infrastructure/ Construction Goods, 11.1 percent in Consumer durables, and 2.1 percent in Consumer non-durables when compared to August 2025. According to the Use-Based Classification, Intermediate Goods, Capital Goods, and Consumer durables were the primary drivers of IIP growth in August 2026.
