The key domestic indices ended on a mildly negative note. Nifty Media, Nifty Auto and Nifty Healthcare Index shares advanced, while Nifty IT and Nifty Realty shares retreated.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 492.70 points or 0.63% to 77,235.46. The Nifty 50 index lost 132.75 points or 0.55% to 24,154.90. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex moved lower by 0.99% and 1.08%, respectively.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.35% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest gains of 0.19%.
The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 2165 shares gained and 2961 shares fell. A total of 213 shares were unchanged.
Eternal Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 183.87 lakh shares and recorded a sharp decline of 16.76% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen sharply by around 10.96% in last one-month and has moved higher 0.98% over last one year.
HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 179.17 lakh shares and saw a sharp decline of 21.61% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 11.05% in last one-month and has slumped 27.23% over last one year.

The Nifty Media index moved higher by 0.40% to 1602.2 today. The index has climbed by 2.33% in last one week and has posted modest gains of 4.88% over last one month. It slipped by 3.26% in last one year. Prime Focus Ltd (up 7.45%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (up 1.56%), PVR Inox Ltd (up 0.51%) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 0.43%) gained.
The Nifty Auto index edged higher by 0.30% to 29264.55 today. The index is slightly lower by 1.49% in last one week and has climbed 7.67% over last one month. It is sharply higher by around 16.12% in last one year. Tube Investments of India Ltd (up 7.94%), Bosch Ltd (up 3.75%), Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (up 2.35%), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd (up 1.39%) and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (up 0.92%) rose.
The Nifty IT index declined by 1.93% to 30213.45 today. The index is sharply lower by 2.60% in last one week and has gained 5.41% over last one month. It is lower by around 11.05% in last one year. Mphasis Ltd (down 3.11%), LTM Ltd (down 2.93%), Persistent Systems Ltd (down 2.29%), Infosys Ltd (down 2.18%) and Wipro Ltd (down 2.11%) retreated.
The Nifty Realty index moved lower by 1.42% to 895.8 today. The index has gained modestly by 1.20% in last one week and has eased by 1.09% over last one month. It is up 1.14% in last one year. Oberoi Realty Ltd (down 3.78%), Lodha Developers Ltd (down 3.42%), Godrej Properties Ltd (down 2.76%), Sobha Ltd (down 0.96%) and Brigade Enterprises Ltd (down 0.81%) moved lower.
The Nifty Media index rose for a third session in a row today. Prime Focus Ltd (up 7.45%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (up 1.56%), PVR Inox Ltd (up 0.51%) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 0.43%) went up.
