The key domestic indices finished lower. Nifty Pharma, Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Auto shares rose, while Nifty IT and Nifty Realty shares declined.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 555.23 points or 0.73% to 75,577.58. The Nifty 50 index retreated 262.60 points or 1.10% to 23,635.10. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex drifted lower by 1% and 0.76%, respectively.
The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index edged higher by 0.27% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.17%.
The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 2375 shares advanced and 2881 shares fell. A total of 202 shares were unchanged.
Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 242.73 lakh shares and saw a sharp decline of 21.33% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slipped by around 1.03% in last one-month and has risen sharply 9.95% over last one year.
Bharat Electronics Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 232.25 lakh shares and recorded a sharp increase of 166.61% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has moved higher 0.75% in last one-month and has jumped 8.63% over last one year.

Index action
The Nifty Pharma index climbed by 1.52% to 26880.8 today. The index has lost 1.88% in last one week and has moved higher by 0.50% over last one month. It jumped by 22% in last one year. Wockhardt Ltd (up 6.48%), Laurus Labs Ltd (up 5.81%), Piramal Pharma Ltd (up 5.79%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (up 5.22%) and Sai Life Sciences Ltd (up 3.96%) moved higher.
The Nifty Healthcare Index index gained modestly by 1.32% to 16624.6 today. The index has retreated by 2.49% in last one week and has drifted lower by 1.13% over last one month. It has advanced by 14.49% in last one year. Laurus Labs Ltd (up 5.81%), Piramal Pharma Ltd (up 5.79%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (up 5.22%), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (up 2.35%) and Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (up 2.28%) gained.
The Nifty IT index tumbled 2.64% to 29883.5 today. The index has declined sharply by 3.84% in last one week and has inched lower by 4.92% over last one month. It fell by 12.58% in last one year. Infosys Ltd (down 4.25%), Wipro Ltd (down 2.78%), Mphasis Ltd (down 2.77%), LTM Ltd (down 2.72%) and Tech Mahindra Ltd (down 2.37%) slipped.
The Nifty Realty index declined by 1.75% to 892.05 today. The index is down 1.29% in last one week and has inched higher by 0.74% over last one month. It inched up by 1.82% in last one year. Godrej Properties Ltd (down 3.80%), Phoenix Mills Ltd (down 2.94%), Oberoi Realty Ltd (down 2.23%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (down 1.60%) and Brigade Enterprises Ltd (down 1.31%) traded lower.
Global Markets
European markets saw a mild dip.
DOW futures are trading slightly lower by 0.74% today.
MCX Crude oil futures are up by 1.40% at Rs 8764.0 per barrel.
NIFTY50 futures ended with a modest loss of 0.52% at 23744 and are in a premium of 109 points compared to NIFTY50.
