U.S. stocks rally on interest rate expectations

US stocks rose in the last session as Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller's comments about easing price pressures led investors to lower their expectations for an interest rate hike. Positive economic data also improved market sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 624.16 points, or 1.18 percent, reaching 53,686.11. The S&P 500 gained 81.11 points, or 1.06 percent, to 7,747.71, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed by 366.23 points, or 1.4 percent, to 26,584.06. Eight of the 11 S&P 500 sectors ended positively. Waller noted signs of disinflation in the economy, suggesting he could back keeping interest rates steady in the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting. Additionally, the US Composite PMI Output Index rose to 56 in August, up from July's 54.5, and the Services PMI Business Activity Index reached a 20-month high at 56.5. US Treasury yields fell below the 4.80% mark.
