Gift Nifty was slightly higher, Asian markets traded slightly lower

Local stock markets are likely to start on a cautious note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures have edged up 0.08 points, hinting at a positive opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market posted modest gains in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 marginally higher.The BSE Sensex has risen slightly 0.86% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has posted modest gains of 0.84% over the same period. In Asia today, sentiment was mildly weak. China’s SSE Composite Index inched higher 0.40% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 eased 0.98%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 0.03%. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 17 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 4,013 crore in the Indian equity market on 6 August 2026, provisional data showed. Overnight on Wall Street, stocks drifted lower across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly lower by 464.02 points, or 0.85%, and closed at 53906.10. The S&P 500 posted modest losses of 0.16% to end at 7732.38, and the NASDAQ Composite edged lower 0.05% to 26371.50. Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex added 373.76 points or 0.48% to 78954.76. The Nifty 50 index moved higher by 11.35 points or 0.05% to 24636.00. Reliance Industries Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, moving higher by 3.52% to Rs 1325. The stock has inched higher around 1.43% in last one-week and is weaker 10.47% over last one-month. In sectoral indices, only Nifty PSU Bank index edged up yesterday, adding 2.20% on the day.
