Local stock markets are poised for a slightly weak start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are modestly lower by 0.14 points, pointing to a subdued start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market edged lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 a tad lower.The BSE Sensex has posted modest losses of 2.16% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has slipped 2.90% over the same period.
In Asia today, sentiment was negative. China’s SSE Composite Index drifted lower 0.89% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 2.63%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 1.21%.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,143 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,846 crore in the Indian equity market on 1 September 2026, provisional data showed.
Overnight on Wall Street, stocks edged lower across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was modestly lower by 419.02 points, or 0.79%, and closed at 52787.88. The S&P 500 edged lower 0.69% to end at 7653.60, and the NASDAQ Composite drifted lower 1.03% to 26120.69.
Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex posted modest losses of 12.99 points or 0.02% to 76944.28. The Nifty 50 index eased 24.60 points or 0.10% to 24055.80. ITC Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, moving higher by 4.34% to Rs 266.60. The stock has edged up around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month.
In sectoral indices, only Nifty IT index edged up yesterday, adding 0.98% on the day.
